The fault tends to arrive in stages

The EGR warning rarely announces itself cleanly. A rough idle first, a hesitation under load, a slight drag on acceleration, maybe a hint of black smoke that gets worse when you push the engine. Then limp mode activates, and the van stops doing its job. RPM limited, performance gutted, the vehicle crawling rather than working.

The EGR valve routes exhaust gases back into the engine's intake to reduce combustion temperature. On a diesel doing the kind of driving common in Sale, short runs across the local streets, hops between Brooklands and Sale Moor, deliveries across Stretford and Ashton-on-Mersey, the engine rarely holds the sustained temperature needed to burn exhaust deposits off cleanly. Carbon builds in the valve passages. The valve fouls, or sticks, or fails to regulate correctly. The ECU detects the system is out of tolerance, logs a fault code, and drops the engine into reduced performance mode to protect itself.

Black smoke under load. Rough idle at standstill. Power loss on the road. Warning light. These symptoms do not appear together by accident, they are the same fault at different stages. Cleaning removes the deposits for a time. A replacement resets the component. Neither changes the short-run, stop-start diesel use that caused the accumulation.

The fix: software remap, valve stays in place

A software remap removes the EGR system from the ECU's operating logic entirely. Once the remap is written, the ECU stops commanding the valve. The exhaust gas recirculation cycle is disabled. All stored fault codes are cleared. Limp mode caused by the EGR fault resolves.

“EGR removal” and “EGR delete” are the same service, a software modification carried out through the OBD port. The valve stays physically in the engine; nothing is unbolted, no blanking plate is fitted, no engine bay work is done. The ECU simply no longer uses the EGR system.

The modification is permanent. It takes around an hour at your location, and the vehicle is ready to drive when we leave.

We are based close to Sale

We are based in Eccles, which puts us a few miles from Sale with good motorway access. We cover Sale, Brooklands, Sale Moor, and Ashton-on-Mersey regularly and response times are typically fast. Call to check availability and arrange a same-day or next-day visit to your location.

What the visit involves

We arrive at your driveway, workplace car park, or yard. Before touching anything, we plug into the OBD port and read all current fault codes, so you know exactly where the vehicle stands before and after. The remap is written, the result is verified with the engine running, and all EGR-related codes are cleared before we leave. Around 60 to 90 minutes, no garage needed.

Frequently asked questions

Is “EGR removal” the same as “EGR delete”?
Yes. Both terms describe the same software-based modification, the ECU is remapped to disable the EGR system permanently. Whether you searched one term or the other, the service and the price are identical.
Do you physically remove the EGR valve?
No. The valve stays in place inside the engine. We modify the ECU software only. Nothing is unbolted, no blanking plates are fitted, and the engine bay is left exactly as we found it.
Will the EGR warning light go off after the modification?
Yes. Clearing stored EGR fault codes is part of the job. Once the remap is live and the codes are cleared, the engine management light triggered by the EGR fault will go off.
Is EGR removal legal for road use?
EGR removal is for off-road and track use only. You are responsible for ensuring your vehicle complies with the emissions requirements applicable to your use case.
