What is an EGR delete?

EGR stands for exhaust gas recirculation. The EGR valve routes a portion of exhaust gases back into the engine's intake to lower combustion temperatures and reduce NOx emissions. Over time, those exhaust gases deposit carbon inside the valve and the intake manifold. The valve sticks, the engine throws a fault code, and you end up in limp mode.

An EGR delete is a software-level fix. We remap the ECU so it no longer instructs the EGR valve to operate. The valve physically stays in place, there is nothing to remove, nothing to replace, and no mechanical work involved. The engine simply stops using it. The fault codes stop appearing because the ECU is no longer asking for something it cannot get.

Why cleaning and replacing the valve does not solve it

Cleaning the EGR valve is a short-term measure. Carbon build-up returns, usually faster the second time around, and you are back to the same fault within months.

Replacing the valve costs more, typically between £150 and £400 for parts and labour depending on the vehicle, and the new valve will eventually block in exactly the same way. The underlying problem is the design of the system, not the condition of the part.

The delete is the permanent solution because it removes the system from the equation entirely. We have carried out this service on over 7,000 vehicles, and it is the single most effective way to stop an EGR fault from returning.

Frequently asked questions

What is an EGR delete?
An EGR delete is a software modification to your vehicle's ECU that disables the exhaust gas recirculation system. Rather than removing the physical valve, we remap the engine management software so it no longer activates the EGR valve. The result is that the valve sits dormant, fault codes stop appearing, and the engine runs without the recirculation loop. It is for off-road and track use only.
How much does an EGR delete cost?
Our EGR delete is a flat £220. That includes the remap, a mobile callout to your location anywhere within 40 miles of Eccles, and the full hour of work. There are no additional charges for parts because no parts are required. See our EGR delete cost page for a full breakdown.
Will an EGR delete fail my MOT?
An EGR delete can cause an MOT failure. MOT testers check for fault codes and, on some vehicles, will inspect the emissions system visually. If your vehicle is tested with an EGR delete in place, there is a risk it will not pass. This service is intended for vehicles used off-road or on track only, and it is the customer's responsibility to ensure their vehicle is compliant with road traffic legislation before driving on public roads.
Is EGR delete legal in the UK?
EGR deletion is not legal for road use in the UK. Modifying or disabling a vehicle's emissions control system breaches the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986. This service is offered strictly for off-road and track use. We do not carry out EGR deletes on vehicles intended for continued road use, and customers accept full responsibility for how the vehicle is used after the remap.
