What is an EGR delete?
EGR stands for exhaust gas recirculation. The EGR valve routes a portion of exhaust gases back into the engine's intake to lower combustion temperatures and reduce NOx emissions. Over time, those exhaust gases deposit carbon inside the valve and the intake manifold. The valve sticks, the engine throws a fault code, and you end up in limp mode.
An EGR delete is a software-level fix. We remap the ECU so it no longer instructs the EGR valve to operate. The valve physically stays in place, there is nothing to remove, nothing to replace, and no mechanical work involved. The engine simply stops using it. The fault codes stop appearing because the ECU is no longer asking for something it cannot get.
Why cleaning and replacing the valve does not solve it
Cleaning the EGR valve is a short-term measure. Carbon build-up returns, usually faster the second time around, and you are back to the same fault within months.
Replacing the valve costs more, typically between £150 and £400 for parts and labour depending on the vehicle, and the new valve will eventually block in exactly the same way. The underlying problem is the design of the system, not the condition of the part.
