Vauxhall EGR delete

EGR delete is for off-road and track use only. This service is not for vehicles used on public roads. Many Vivaro operators use their vehicles on sites and unmade ground where off-road use applies directly.

The CDTi platform and why EGR faults are widespread

Vauxhall's CDTi diesel engines, produced in 1.6 and 2.0 litre forms, power a wide range of models that are well represented in our booking list. The CDTi units have a decent reputation for reliability in general, but the EGR system is a consistent weak point. Carbon accumulation at the EGR valve and cooler leads to restricted flow, and the engine management system eventually logs a fault and restricts power.

The pattern is familiar: the vehicle goes into limp mode, the driver gets the van or car recovered or limped to a garage, and the garage quotes for an EGR valve, an EGR cooler, or both. The parts are replaced. The vehicle runs cleanly for a while. Then the same conditions that caused the first failure start affecting the replacement. Some Vivaro and Insignia owners have replaced EGR components twice or more by the time they contact us.

We remap the ECU to remove EGR function from the software entirely. The engine runs without EGR, the cooler and valve are no longer in use, and the fault does not recur.

Vauxhall models we cover

Vivaro 1.6 CDTi and 2.0 CDTi

The Vivaro is the Vauxhall most commonly booked for EGR delete. It is a popular van with tradespeople and fleet operators, and it is frequently used on construction sites, yards and other off-road environments. The 1.6 CDTi (with both single and twin-turbo variants) and the 2.0 CDTi are both prone to EGR valve and cooler issues. EGR faults on the Vivaro typically appear between 70,000 and 100,000 miles, though we see them earlier on vehicles used in heavier-duty conditions.

Insignia 2.0 CDTi

The Insignia 2.0 CDTi is the most common Vauxhall passenger car we deal with for EGR work. It is a popular choice for company car and fleet use, and at higher mileages EGR faults are very common. The symptoms on the Insignia are the same as the Vivaro: fault codes P0400 or P0401, limp mode and rough running. The ECU delete resolves the issue cleanly.

Astra 1.6 CDTi and 2.0 CDTi

The Astra CDTi sees EGR faults at lower frequency than the Insignia and Vivaro, but it is still a model we cover. Both 1.6 and 2.0 CDTi variants are suitable for ECU delete.

Movano 2.3 CDTi

The Movano large van uses a different engine supplier (Renault/Nissan sourced 2.3 CDTi) but is still covered. EGR faults are common on this unit and the ECU delete process is the same.

What the ECU delete involves

We carry out the remap on-site at your location. There is no mechanical work, no component removal and no need for a workshop. Here is the process from start to finish:

Step 1, Call us. Tell us your Vauxhall model, engine, mileage and the fault codes or symptoms you have. We confirm suitability straight away.

Step 2, We agree a time. Same-day and next-day appointments are available in most of our coverage area. We work around your schedule.

Step 3, We come to you. We travel to your home, workplace, depot or site. We cover Greater Manchester and surrounding areas within 40 miles of Eccles, including Bolton, Wigan, Salford, Stockport, Warrington and Preston.

Step 4, The remap. We connect to the ECU via the OBD port. The remap removes EGR function from the engine management software. Fault codes are cleared. The process takes under an hour on most Vauxhall models.

Step 5, Done. The EGR fault is gone from the software permanently. There is no further action required and no return visit needed.

Price

Vauxhall EGR delete is £220 flat. One price for all CDTi models. No call-out charge. No additional fees.

Frequently asked questions

My Vivaro is used on building sites. Does the off-road disclaimer apply?
Yes, directly. If the vehicle is used on unmade ground, construction sites or private land, that constitutes off-road use. This is a common application for the service among Vivaro owners. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure the vehicle complies with road traffic law for any road use.
Will the Vauxhall throw any new faults after the EGR delete?
The remap is written specifically to remove EGR function without triggering additional fault codes. We verify the system is clean before we leave.
My Insignia has a DPF as well as EGR. Does the remap affect the DPF?
No. The EGR delete remap is targeted at the EGR maps only. The DPF system is not affected. If you want a combined EGR and DPF delete, call us and we can discuss what is available for your specific vehicle.
How many Vauxhall vehicles have you worked on?
SGR Automotive, which operates The EGR Specialist, has worked across more than 7,000 vehicles in total. Vauxhall CDTi models are among our most regular bookings.
Do you cover the Vauxhall Combo or Zafira?
Call 0161 694 7331 and we will confirm your specific model and engine. We cover a wider range than is listed on this page.
