Which engine is in your NV300
One van, two engines, and the badge on the back tells you which. The NV300 is the Renault Trafic III built for Nissan, so its engines and its EGR faults are the Trafic's.
| Engine | NV300 | Years | EGR weak point | |---|---|---|---| | 1.6 dCi R9M, 95 and 120 PS single turbo, 125 and 145 PS twin turbo | Launch model | 2016 to 2019 | Valve sticks with carbon at relatively low mileage, worst on the twin-turbo versions | | 2.0 dCi M9R, 120 to 170 PS | 2019 facelift | 2019 to 2021 | Newer unit; valve fouling reported |
The R9M is the engine most NV300s carry. It is shared with the Renault Trafic, the Vauxhall Vivaro B and the Fiat Talento, and it goes the same way in all four: the valve sticks with carbon earlier than you would expect on a van of that age, the ECU logs P0401 or P0404, and the van drops into limp mode. The twin-turbo 125 and 145 PS versions are the ones we hear about most. The 2.0 dCi that replaced it in 2019 is a newer engine with a shorter record, so we confirm coverage from your reg.
How the delete is done on the NV300
You call 0161 694 7331 with the reg and the engine.
We confirm the ECU type before we set off.
We come to the van, at your yard, depot, home or workplace, anywhere within a 40-mile radius of Eccles.
Before anything is written we read every stored code and note the live EGR readings, so we know what we are dealing with.
We read the ECU file at the OBD port, write the EGR delete into it and load it back.
The engine is restarted and the live data checked: no EGR command, no flow check, no fault flagged.
Codes cleared, done.
Typically 60 to 90 minutes, and the van does not leave your premises.
Delete versus replacement on the NV300
An EGR clean on the R9M is £80 to £200 and buys a few months before the carbon is back. A new valve is £300 to £700 fitted at an independent garage, and if the cooler needs doing at the same time the bill climbs further, at £60 to £100 an hour independent or £100 to £140 at a dealer. Then the new valve goes back into the same short-run courier work that fouled the old one.
The software delete is £220, once. If the DPF is blocking as well, the DPF and EGR delete in the same visit is £445; the DPF and EGR delete page explains what that covers.
Off-road and track use
The delete is for off-road and track use only. A van with the EGR removed from its software does not meet the emissions requirements for use on a public road, and the owner is responsible for how the vehicle is used after the work. Plenty of NV300s spend their working lives on housing sites, plant yards and private estates, and that is the use the service exists for.

Is the NV300 done through the OBD port, or does the ECU have to come out?
Does the delete change the power or fuelling on the NV300?
