BMW 5 Series EGR delete
The BMW 5 Series has always been a popular company car. That means high mileage, short urban runs, cold starts from motorway services and a lot of stop-start driving, precisely the conditions that cause EGR systems to fail fastest. By the time a 5 Series reaches its second or third owner, EGR problems are often already present.
We carry out a software-based ECU remap through the OBD port. No engine strip, no parts removal, we come to you and the job is done in under an hour.
This service is for off-road and track use only. It is not for road use.
Engines and variants we cover
F10 520d, N47 and B47
The F10 520d is the bread-and-butter of the 5 Series range and the one we get called to most. N47-engined examples from 2010 to 2014 are particularly prone to EGR cooler failure. The B47 (fitted from late 2014 in the F10 LCI and carried through to the G30) is more modern but still develops EGR valve sticking faults in service.
F10/G30 525d and 530d, N57 and B57
The six-cylinder diesel variants are fitted with the N57 or B57 engine. EGR cooler failure on the N57 is a known issue, especially in vehicles that spent their early life doing short, cold runs under a lease agreement. The B57 in the G30 530d is newer but not exempt, we are already seeing EGR valve sensor faults on higher-mileage examples.
F10 535d, N57T
The tri-turbo N57T in the 535d is a capable engine. EGR faults on this unit are less frequent but when they occur they tend to come with multiple fault codes and a confused ECU. The remap resolves it cleanly.
Why EGR systems fail on high-mileage company cars
Company car diesels spend a disproportionate amount of their lives on cold motorway runs, the engine barely reaching operating temperature before the driver arrives at a service station and switches off. Soot and carbon deposits accumulate in the EGR cooler and valve faster than on a vehicle that regularly gets a proper run. The result is cracking coolers, stuck valves and coolant loss.
ECU delete removes EGR function from the engine management system entirely. The valve and cooler are left in situ, they simply stop operating.
