BMW X7 EGR delete

Seven seats, a horsebox on the back at weekends, the school run in between, and a few that live on estates and farm tracks. The use that fouls an X7's EGR is the use we come out to. Mobile software delete, £220.

How the X7 gets used

The X7 is bought for its seven seats and its towing. Big families run it as a school bus and holiday car, which means a week of two-mile trips broken up by one long run a month. Equestrian owners and caravanners tow with it, and the 40d and M50d pull a horsebox or a twin-axle caravan without noticing, then spend the rest of the week parked outside a school. Executive hire firms run them on airport and event work, where the car idles at arrivals with the cabin warm for an hour at a time. A smaller group live on farms and estates where the way to the road is a track.

None of that suits an EGR. The short trips never get the intake hot enough to burn soot off the valve. Idling is cold, low-load running that coats everything in the recirculation path. Towing is the opposite problem: high exhaust temperatures and a cooler working flat out, which is where the cracking starts with age. Between them, the X7 gets both failure modes.

What changes after the delete

No more limp mode with a trailer on the back, and no EGR codes bringing the engine management light on. The ECU stops commanding the valve, so a sticking valve is no longer a fault the car can see. The circuit is closed in software, so exhaust gas stops passing through the cooler and the coolant-loss route closes with it. The valve and cooler stay in place and stop being used. There is no repeat cooler bill, no second valve. The car stays where it is parked and is back in use inside the hour.

X7 engines we cover

X7 30d and 40d: B57, 2019 onward

One diesel engine family in the X7: the B57 3.0 six-cylinder, single turbo in the 30d and twin turbo in the 40d. It is the same engine as the G05 X5, G11 7 Series and G30 5 Series diesels, and it fails the same way in all of them: the cooler leaks with heat and age, the valve fouls with soot, and the engine management light comes on with a P0400-series code.

X7 M50d: B57 quad-turbo, 2019 onward

The four-turbo version of the same engine. Same EGR layout, same fault, same remap.

Every diesel X7 is covered. See BMW EGR delete for the rest of the range, or call 0161 694 7331 to confirm a variant not listed.

More than one X7

Executive hire firms with a pair of X7s on airport work, a family with an X7 and an X5, a livery yard with two on horsebox duty. We do several vehicles in one visit at a yard, garage or home address, and work around who needs theirs first. £220 per vehicle, about an hour each. Send us every reg beforehand and we confirm the engine and ECU type on each before we set off.

Questions from X7 operators

Can you come to a site, depot or farm to do an X7?
Yes. The X7 is done at the OBD port with the car parked where it is: a farmyard, a livery yard, an office car park, a home address, a hire firm's garage. We are mobile only and bring everything with us, anywhere within a 40-mile radius of Eccles.
I run more than one X7. Can you do them in a single visit?
Yes. Two or more cars can be done back to back in one visit, each taking about an hour, worked around whichever is needed next. We confirm every reg in advance so the ECU type on each is known before we arrive. £220 per vehicle, no extra call-out charge for the second car.
How long is the X7 off the road for?
About an hour, and it does not go anywhere. Codes read, ECU read, delete written, engine restarted, live data checked, codes cleared. No parts to order, no return visit. If the car has the school run at three, we can usually have it done by lunch.
Can you do the DPF and the EGR on the X7 in the same visit?
Yes. Where the X7 has a DPF fault as well as an EGR fault, both are handled in the same visit for £445. One appointment, one ECU read and write, one set of codes cleared. See the DPF and EGR delete page, or call and we will confirm the combination for your engine.

Arrange a visit for your X7: call 0161 694 7331, tell us where the car is and when it is off the job, and we will confirm the engine and a time.

£220 per vehicle, we come to you, and same-day and next-day slots are common across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire. No call-out charge, no strip-down, no second visit. For off-road and track use only.
