Ford Galaxy EGR delete

Airport runs, private hire, seven seats of school run, and the odd one on a farm. The use that fouls a Galaxy's EGR is the use we come out to. Mobile software delete, £220.

How the Galaxy gets used

The diesel Galaxy is the North West's private-hire workhorse. Airport transfers from Manchester with six passengers and their luggage, then two hours idling on the rank waiting for the next one. Contract school runs, hospital transport, a wedding party on a Saturday. The rest are big families: seven seats filled twice a day, a supermarket trip, swimming on a Sunday, and the engine switched off before the intake has properly warmed through. A smaller group are on smallholdings and farms, where the Galaxy is the family car and the feed run, and that is the use this service exists for.

Neither pattern suits an EGR. Idling on a rank is cold, low-load running that coats the valve in soot. Short family trips never get the intake hot enough to burn it off. The 2.0 TDCi's valve sticks, the later ones add a cooler bypass fault, and the EcoBlue's valve and cooler go at lower mileage than the older engines. Either way the light comes on with a P0400-series code and the Galaxy drops into limp mode with the car full.

What changes after the delete

No more limp mode with six passengers in the back, and no EGR code bringing the engine management light on. The ECU stops commanding the valve, so a sticking valve is no longer a fault the car can see. The circuit is closed in software, so exhaust gas stops passing through the cooler and, on the EcoBlue, the coolant-loss route closes with it. The valve, cooler and bypass stay in place and stop being used. There is no repeat valve bill. The car stays where it is parked and is back in use inside the hour.

Galaxy engines we cover

Galaxy Mk2 1.8 TDCi, 2006 to 2010

Ford's own Lynx four-cylinder in the base cars. Valve sticking with carbon: a simple, cheap valve that fouls repeatedly.

Galaxy Mk2 2.0 TDCi and 2.2 TDCi, 2006 to 2015

The PSA DW10 2.0 and, from 2008, the DW12 2.2 under Ford badges, the same engines as the Mondeo and the S-Max. Valve sticking on both; cooler bypass faults on the later 2.0.

Galaxy Mk3 2.0 TDCi, 2015 to 2018

The DW10 carried over into the new body. Same valve fault, same fix.

Galaxy Mk3 2.0 EcoBlue, 2018 to 2022

Ford's Euro 6 engine with high-pressure and low-pressure EGR loops. Valve and cooler faults at lower mileage than the DW10. The EcoBlue's wet timing belt is a separate matter and not something the delete touches.

Every diesel Galaxy is covered. See Ford EGR delete for the rest of the range, or call 0161 694 7331 for a variant not listed.

More than one Galaxy

Private-hire operators are the usual case: four or five Galaxys on the same airport account, none of which can be off the road on the same morning. We come to the yard or office, do the cars one after another around the booking sheet, and each is back in use within the hour. £220 per vehicle. Send us every reg beforehand and we confirm engine and ECU type for each car before we set off.

Questions from Galaxy operators

Can you come to a site, depot or farm to do a Galaxy?
Yes. The job is done at the OBD port with the car parked where it is: a private-hire office, a taxi yard, a home address, a farmyard. We are mobile only and bring everything with us, anywhere within a 40-mile radius of Eccles.
I run more than one Galaxy. Can you do them in a single visit?
Yes. Two or more cars can be done back to back in one visit, each taking about an hour, worked around whichever has the next booking. We confirm every reg in advance so the ECU type on each is known before we arrive. £220 per vehicle, no extra call-out for the second car.
How long is the Galaxy off the road for?
About an hour, and it does not go anywhere. Codes read, ECU read, delete written, engine restarted, live data checked, codes cleared. No parts to order, no return visit. If the car has a pick-up at eleven, we can usually have it done first thing.
Can you do the DPF and the EGR on the Galaxy in the same visit?
Yes. Where the Galaxy has a DPF fault as well as an EGR fault, both are handled in the same visit for £445. One appointment, one ECU read and write, one set of codes cleared. See the DPF and EGR delete page, or call and we will confirm the combination for your engine.

Arrange a visit for your Galaxy: call 0161 694 7331, tell us where the car is and when it is off the job, and we will confirm the engine and a time.

£220 per vehicle, we come to you, and same-day and next-day slots are common across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire. No call-out charge, no strip-down, no second visit. For off-road and track use only.
