Ford Ranger EGR delete
The Ford Ranger is built for work. Farms, construction sites, forestry, if a vehicle earns its keep off-road, it is usually a Ranger. That background makes it one of the most straightforward vehicles we deal with: genuine off-road use, a specific and well-understood EGR problem, and an owner who wants it fixed properly rather than managed around.
We carry out a software-based ECU remap through the OBD port. Mobile, no parts, no strip-down, we come to you.
This service is for off-road and track use only. Rangers used for agricultural and site work are the primary use case for this service.
Ford Ranger 2.2 TDCi
The 2.2 TDCi is the entry-level diesel in the Ranger lineup. EGR valve sticking is the most common fault on this engine. Carbon deposits build up on the valve over time, particularly when the vehicle spends a lot of time at low speeds or idling, exactly the conditions of farm and site work. When the valve sticks, the ECU sees a discrepancy between commanded and actual EGR position and triggers a fault code, often accompanied by limp mode.
The ECU remap removes EGR operation from the engine management system. The valve stays in place but stops being used.
Ford Ranger 3.2 TDCi
The 3.2 TDCi is the engine that benefits most from a delete. EGR cooler failure on this unit carries real risk, if the cooler cracks and coolant enters the intake, it can cause serious engine damage if not caught quickly. On a vehicle doing regular off-road mileage in dusty or wet conditions, the cooler takes more stress than it would on a road car, and failure is more likely.
The ECU delete removes both the EGR valve and cooler from software operation permanently. Once the remap is done, neither component is active, the risk goes with it.
Why Rangers are a natural fit for this service
A significant proportion of the Rangers we work on are on farms or construction sites. They rarely leave private land. Owners contact us because they have an EGR fault, they do not want to spend on a repair that will likely fail again within 50,000 miles, and they want the problem gone.
That is what this service does. There is no ongoing maintenance, no part that will crack or stick again, and no repeat call-out.
