Mercedes EGR delete
EGR delete is for off-road and track use only. This service is not for vehicles used on public roads.
The OM651 engine and why EGR faults are so common
If you own a Mercedes Vito or Sprinter built from 2010 onwards, the OM651 engine under the bonnet has a reputation you are probably already aware of. It is a 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel that Mercedes fitted across a huge range of commercial vehicles and passenger cars, and it powers some of the most reliable vans on the road in many respects. The EGR system, however, is not one of its strengths.
The OM651 uses an EGR cooler and valve arrangement that is prone to failure at moderate mileage. When the cooler leaks or the valve sticks, exhaust gas flow to the intake is disrupted. The ECU detects the fault and the engine goes into limp mode. For van operators who depend on the vehicle every day, this is not a minor inconvenience.
The standard fix is to replace the valve, the cooler, or both. Parts and labour from a franchise dealer are expensive, and the repair has a repeat failure rate that makes it a poor long-term answer. The ECU remap takes the EGR out of the picture entirely.
Models we cover
Mercedes Vito (W639, W447) 2.1 CDI
The Vito is the most common Mercedes we see for EGR work. Both the older W639 and the current W447 generation are affected. EGR valve failure and cooler failure are both common, with EGR-related limp mode being the most frequent reason Vito owners contact us.
Mercedes Sprinter (W906, W907) 2.1 CDI
The Sprinter is the most commercially important vehicle in the Mercedes van range and the OM651 EGR problem affects it in exactly the same way as the Vito. W906 and W907 models both appear regularly on our booking list. Fleet operators running multiple Sprinters find the ECU delete a cost-effective alternative to repeated warranty-free repairs.
Mercedes C-Class (W204, W205) 220d / 200d
The OM651 also powers the C-Class diesel, and EGR faults follow the same pattern as the vans. The C220d and C200d in W204 and W205 form are both covered. Symptoms are identical: fault codes, limp mode and rough idle.
Mercedes E-Class (W212, W213) 220d / 200d
The E-Class diesel range uses the same engine family and sees the same EGR failures. We cover both W212 and W213 generation models.

Symptoms to watch for
Mercedes EGR failure typically presents in one or more of the following ways:
Coolant contamination in the intake is a more serious symptom and should be dealt with promptly. Where EGR cooler failure has progressed to internal coolant leakage, the ECU delete is still the correct software solution, but you should be aware of any associated mechanical damage before proceeding.
What happens on the day
We arrive at your location with the equipment needed to connect to your Mercedes ECU. There is no component removal, no disassembly and no mess. We connect via the OBD port, carry out the remap, and verify the fault codes are cleared before we leave. The full process takes under an hour in most cases.
We cover Greater Manchester and surrounding areas within a 40-mile radius of Eccles. Bolton, Wigan, Salford, Stockport, Warrington, Preston and Oldham are all within our regular coverage area. Same-day and next-day bookings are available in most cases.
Price
Mercedes EGR delete is £220 flat. This applies to all Mercedes models and engine variants we cover. There is no call-out charge.
