VW Caddy EGR delete
Parcel rounds, plumbers' vans, taxi work, school runs in a Caddy Life. The use that fouls a Caddy's EGR is the use we come out to. Mobile software delete, £220.
Call 0161 694 7331 with the reg. We come to you within a 40-mile radius of Eccles.
For off-road and track use only.
How the Caddy gets used
The Caddy is the small van that never gets a long run. A courier Caddy does eighty drops a day, none of them more than a mile apart, engine off at every door. A plumber's or electrician's Caddy does four jobs across town with a trip to the merchant in between. A Caddy Life or Maxi Life does the school, the supermarket and the wheelchair-accessible airport run, then sits. The engine reaches working temperature late in the morning and loses it again at every stop, and the intake behind the EGR valve never gets hot enough for long enough to burn off the soot in the recirculated gas.
So carbon builds. On the pump-düse 1.9 the valve sticks and the ECU logs a flow fault. On the EA189 the combined valve and cooler module fouls and its bypass flap seizes. On the EA288 there are two circuits to clog, and the low-pressure cooler goes first. Either way the van ends up flat, then in limp mode, on the way to a customer. Plenty of Caddys also spend part of the week on housing sites, farm tracks and compound yards, and that is the use this service is sold for.
What changes after the delete
The ECU stops commanding the EGR valve, so a valve stuck with carbon can no longer trip limp mode or store a P0400-series code. The EGR circuit is closed in software, so exhaust gas stops passing through the cooler, and the route by which a cracked cooler pushes coolant into the intake is shut. There is no repeat valve or module bill, because the part is no longer in use. The van stays where it is parked, the remap takes about an hour, and it is back on the job the same morning with the fuelling and boost exactly as VW set them.
Caddy engines we cover
Caddy Mk3 1.9 TDI PD and 2.0 SDI, 2004 to 2010
The pump-düse 1.9 is the engine in most early Mk3s and the same unit as the Golf Mk5 and Transporter T5 1.9. Valve sticking with carbon, P0401 or P0404, limp mode. The unturbocharged 2.0 SDI has a simpler EGR and the same sticking fault.
Caddy Mk3 1.6 and 2.0 TDI EA189, 2010 to 2015
Common rail from 2010, shared with the Golf Mk6 and Transporter T5.1. The EGR is one module combining valve, cooler and bypass flap; a stuck flap or a cracked cooler means the whole unit at replacement time.
Caddy Mk4 1.6 and 2.0 TDI EA288, 2015 to 2020
Euro 6 with high-pressure and low-pressure EGR. Low-pressure valve and cooler fouling first, high-pressure valve sticking second. Both circuits covered.
Caddy Mk5 2.0 TDI EA288 evo, 2020 onward
The Golf Mk8-based van on the updated EA288. Newer, shorter record, same twin-circuit layout.
Other VW vans and cars are on the VW EGR delete hub. For a Caddy variant not listed, call 0161 694 7331 and we will confirm from the reg.
More than one Caddy
If you run a fleet of Caddys, courier, maintenance or taxi, we do them in one visit at the yard or depot, worked around your shift pattern so the vans are done between rounds rather than instead of them. £220 per vehicle, no call-out charge on top. Send us the reg for each van beforehand and we confirm the ECU type on every one before we set off, so nothing is held up on the day.
