Range Rover EGR delete
£220 once. Or a cooler buried under a V6 or V8 intake every few years at dealer rates, on a car where the labour is most of the bill.

The replacement bill on a Range Rover
Nothing on a Range Rover is cheap to reach, and the EGR is no exception. On the L405's TDV6 and SDV6 the part that fails is the cooler, and there are two, one per bank, sitting in the valley of the engine under the intake. Reaching them means lifting the intake and everything routed over it. A single valve is £300 to £700 fitted at an independent garage; the cooler job on a V6 runs to several hours before a part is fitted, at £60 to £100 an hour independent or £100 to £140 at a dealer, and with parts, gaskets and coolant the bill lands well into four figures. The TDV8 and SDV8 add another bank and more hours.
Then the new cooler goes back into the same duty cycle that cracked the first one: cold starts, short runs, a caravan on the back at the weekend. The second failure is on your money.
Clean, replace or delete
| Option | Typical cost | How long it lasts | Road-legal? | |---|---|---|---| | Clean | £80 to £200 | Months to a year or two, depending on use | Yes | | Replace | £300 to £700+ fitted; four figures for a V6 or V8 cooler | Until the new part fouls | Yes | | Software delete | £220 once | Permanent | No, off-road and track use only |
The honest reading: if the Range Rover is used on the road, cleaning is the right first step and the right call while the valve is merely coated. Replacement is the right call when a cooler has cracked or a valve has physically failed on a road car. The delete is for the off-road or track Range Rover whose owner is on a second or third EGR bill.
Range Rover engines covered
Range Rover L322 TD6 3.0, 2002 to 2006
The BMW M57 six-cylinder from the 530d and X5 of the period. Cooler failure on high-mileage cars, valve sticking with carbon.
Range Rover L322 3.6 TDV8, 2006 to 2010, and 4.4 TDV8, 2010 to 2012
Two coolers, two banks, a lot of hours. EGR cooler faults are well-documented on both.
Range Rover L405 3.0 TDV6 and SDV6, 2012 to 2019
The AJD-V6 shared with the Range Rover Sport and the Discovery 4. The buried cooler with the coolant-loss route: level dropping, no leak, white smoke on a cold start.
Range Rover L405 4.4 SDV8, 2012 to 2020
The V8 version of the same family. Same cooler position, more of it.
Range Rover L405 and L460 D300 and D350, 2020 onward
The six-cylinder Ingenium mild hybrid, Euro 6 with high-pressure and low-pressure EGR. Newer, with a short record so far.

What happens on the day
We come to the car within a 40-mile radius of Eccles: home, estate, office car park, wherever it lives. We connect at the OBD port under the dash, read every stored code, read the ECU file and write the EGR delete into it. Engine restarted, live data checked to confirm the ECU is no longer commanding the valves, codes cleared. Roughly an hour, and nothing is unbolted. If the DPF is blocked as well, both are done in the same visit for £445: see DPF and EGR delete.
