How EGR valves fail, and what a software delete does about it
The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve routes a controlled portion of exhaust gas back into the intake manifold. The purpose is to reduce combustion temperature and lower NOx output. In theory, the system functions as designed. In practice, on a diesel engine doing short runs, urban deliveries, and regular idling, the carbon content of recirculated exhaust gas accumulates faster than normal operating temperatures can clear it.
The valve fouls. Deposits build up in the intake ports. Eventually the ECU detects that the EGR circuit is no longer performing within its calibrated parameters, and it responds by logging a fault code and reducing power output to protect the drivetrain. Limp mode is the result. For a van that earns money, it is a significant problem.
A software delete removes the EGR system from the ECU's operating map entirely. We connect via the OBD port and write a modified map in which the EGR valve is disabled in software. The valve stays physically in place. Nothing is unbolted, no blanking plate is fitted, no surrounding components are disturbed. The engine runs without the EGR cycle. Fault codes related to the EGR system are cleared and do not return, because the ECU is no longer monitoring a circuit it has been told to ignore.
Vehicles covered
We carry out software EGR deletes on a wide range of diesel vans and cars. Common vehicles in Leyland include the Ford Transit (TDCi and EcoBlue), Mercedes Sprinter (CDI), Vauxhall Movano and Vivaro, Volkswagen Transporter T5 and T6 (TDI), Volkswagen Crafter, Renault Trafic and Master, and Fiat Ducato. Diesel cars, including BMW, Audi, Land Rover, and Vauxhall, are also covered, subject to available tuning files for the specific make, model, engine, and year.
Compatibility depends on what tuning data is available for your ECU variant. If you are unsure, call with your registration and we will confirm before you book.

No recovery truck needed. No garage appointment. The vehicle is ready to drive when we leave.
Cost, what £220 covers
The £220 price covers the visit, the remap, and the post-remap verification. There is no diagnostic fee on top, no call-out charge, and no per-hour rate. The job is one fixed price regardless of how long it takes within the normal 60–90 minute window.
For comparison, a physical EGR valve replacement typically costs £300–£600 fitted, and that is assuming the job is straightforward, without corroded fixings or secondary components that need attention. For vehicles that have already been through one replacement, or two, the cost accumulates alongside interim cleaning intervals. A software delete at £220 is a single visit with no repeat. If you also need a DPF delete, both can be done in one visit for £445.
Legal disclaimer
EGR delete is for off-road and track use only. A vehicle with the EGR system disabled in software does not comply with current UK road emissions legislation and cannot legally be used on a public road. The modification is the responsibility of the vehicle owner. We state this plainly, it is not a deterrent, it is a condition of the service, and the decision about use case rests with the owner.
