What you get from the delete

Once the remap is done, the EGR valve is removed from the engine's software map. The ECU stops commanding it. The fault code does not return. Limp mode caused by the EGR system does not come back. That is the practical outcome, not a temporary fix that buys a few more months before the same fault reappears.

We carry out the modification at your location in Darwen. No garage, no recovery, no dealership appointment. We connect through the OBD port, write the modified map, verify the result, and clear the stored codes before we leave. £220, one visit, permanent resolution. We have worked on over 7,000 vehicles across SGR Automotive's services, the EGR delete is a specialism, not a sideline.

The service is mobile and software-only. There is no physical dismantling. The EGR valve stays in place. The modification is written entirely through the OBD port, which means no engine bay access is required and no surrounding components are disturbed. Same-day and next-day slots are commonly available, call to confirm availability for Darwen.

How the remap works

The EGR delete is an ECU remap. We connect to the vehicle's engine management unit through the OBD diagnostic port and write a modified software map. In that map, the EGR valve is disabled, the ECU no longer commands it to open, no longer monitors the circuit, and no longer generates EGR fault codes.

The valve itself stays physically in place. Nothing is unbolted. No blanking plates are fitted. No gaskets or corroded fixings are touched. The modification is entirely in software and is permanent, the EGR cycle does not restart after a service reset or a software update from a dealer scan tool.

Duration is typically 60 to 90 minutes. The vehicle is driveable immediately after the modification is complete.

How a visit works

We arrive at your location in Darwen, home, yard, commercial premises, or a car park. Pre-remap, we read all current fault codes and log them. The remap is then written via the OBD port. Once written, the engine is restarted and the map is verified. Fault codes are cleared before we leave.

If you also need a DPF delete, that can be carried out at the same visit, call to confirm and we will price both up together. No need to arrange two separate bookings.

Darwen and the surrounding area

Darwen sits on the main road corridor between Bolton and Blackburn, and a significant proportion of the diesel vans working in the area do exactly the kind of driving that causes EGR problems most quickly, short runs between sites, regular stops, idling. The motorway network at Blackburn is close, but for local runs through Lower Darwen and on to Blackburn town centre, the load conditions are consistently low-speed and stop-start. We are based in Eccles, roughly 18 miles south, and cover Darwen and the surrounding Blackburn with Darwen borough as part of our regular service area.

FAQs

Will the EGR warning light go off after the modification?
Yes. The EGR warning light is triggered by an active fault code from the engine management system. Once the EGR is disabled in software, the ECU no longer monitors the EGR circuit and cannot generate that fault code. The light goes off and does not return in relation to the EGR system.
Can you reverse an EGR delete if needed?
Yes. The original ECU map can be restored if required, for example, if the vehicle is being returned to road use or sold. Call us to discuss. A re-remap back to stock is available and carries its own charge.
How soon can you visit Darwen?
Same-day and next-day slots are frequently available for Darwen. Call 0161 694 7331 to check current availability, booking lead times are typically short.
Does an ECU remap affect my vehicle's warranty?
A manufacturer's warranty may be voided by an ECU remap. If the vehicle is still under a manufacturer or dealer warranty, check the terms before booking. For older, out-of-warranty vehicles, which is most of the vehicles we work on, this is not a relevant consideration.
