The fault that keeps returning
The EGR fault rarely arrives without warning. A rough idle is usually first, then a noticeable loss of power under load, then black smoke at higher revs. By the time the van drops into limp mode, the engine management system has already been logging faults for some time and has decided the EGR problem is severe enough to restrict output. For anyone running a vehicle for work, the timing is never convenient.
The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve routes a portion of exhaust gas back into the intake manifold to lower combustion temperature. On a diesel doing local deliveries, short site runs, or the kind of stop-start driving that the Dewsbury and Kirklees area generates, the carbon in that recirculated exhaust builds up in the valve and surrounding passages faster than the engine's normal operating heat can clear it. The conditions that cause the problem do not change between cleaning intervals.
Cleaning buys time before the deposits return. A replacement valve resets the clock. Neither addresses the operating conditions that produce the build-up in the first place.
What the software delete does
The EGR delete is an ECU remap. We connect to the engine management unit through the vehicle's OBD diagnostic port and write a modified software map in which the EGR valve is completely disabled. The ECU stops commanding the valve, stops monitoring the circuit, and stops generating EGR-related fault codes.
The valve itself remains physically in place. Nothing is unbolted. No blanking plate is fitted. No gaskets are touched and no corroded fixings need to be disturbed. The modification is software-only, carried out entirely through the OBD port, and is permanent, the EGR cycle does not restart after a service or a dealer software update.
One visit. The fault code does not return. Limp mode caused by the EGR system does not come back.
What happens on the day
We come to your location in Dewsbury, home, yard, workplace, or any accessible car park. You do not need to arrange a garage drop-off or a recovery vehicle.
We arrive and connect to the OBD port.
We read all current fault codes and log them before carrying out any work.
The modified ECU map is written via OBD, typically 30 to 45 minutes for the remap itself.
We restart the engine, verify the remap, and clear all EGR fault codes before leaving.
The full process takes 60 to 90 minutes from arrival to completion.
Legal notice
EGR delete is for off-road and track use only. A vehicle with an EGR delete fitted does not comply with current UK emissions requirements for road use and is not road-legal following this modification.
The customer is responsible for understanding and complying with all relevant regulations for their intended use of the vehicle. We carry out the modification on that basis. EGR cleaning and replacement are available as on-road legal alternatives, call us to discuss if that is a better fit for your situation.
