Seat and Skoda EGR delete

Seat and Skoda share the VW Group TDI platform. That means the same 2.0 TDI engines, the same EGR architecture, and the same failure patterns. If you own a Seat Leon, Seat Alhambra, Skoda Octavia or Skoda Superb with a diesel engine, the likelihood is that an EGR fault will surface at some point, particularly as the car ages or accumulates urban mileage.

The EGR Specialist carries out a software-only EGR delete via ECU remap. No physical dismantling. No parts to source or fit. We come to you, remap the ECU, and the EGR is disabled in software. One flat price: £220.

For off-road and track use only. EGR delete is not for road use and must not be used on vehicles driven on public roads.

The same platform, the same problem

VW Group built the 2.0 TDI engine family across four brands: VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda. The engineering is shared, which is efficient from a manufacturing perspective, but means the EGR problems documented across Golf and Passat fleets appear in the same form on Leons, Octavias and Superbs.

The EGR valve sits in a hot, soot-laden environment. At low speeds and high loads, exactly the conditions most private and fleet diesels spend much of their lives in, it accumulates deposits steadily. Eventually it sticks, throws a fault code, and triggers limp mode. On the VW Group 2.0 TDI, this is a when, not an if.

Seat Leon (2.0 TDI)

The Leon is one of the most widely sold Seat models in the UK and one of the most frequently booked jobs on our callout list. The 2.0 TDI Leon, particularly Mk2 and Mk3 variants, runs the EA189 or EA288 engine depending on year. Both develop EGR faults in the same way. Fault codes P0401, P0402 and P040F are common presentations. The ECU remap resolves all of them at the software level.

Seat Alhambra (2.0 TDI)

The Alhambra is a large MPV, frequently used as a family vehicle or a private-hire car. It covers high mileage and the 2.0 TDI EGR system is a known wear item. We see a significant number of Alhambra callouts, particularly from private hire operators who cannot afford the vehicle off the road. The mobile service is well suited to this use case.

Skoda Octavia (2.0 TDI)

The Octavia is the highest-volume Skoda in the UK and, by extension, one of the most common vehicles we remap. Sold in large numbers to private buyers and fleet operators alike, the Octavia 2.0 TDI accumulates EGR faults consistently across mileage ranges from around 80,000 miles upward. The EA189 variant (Mk2 and early Mk3) and EA288 (later Mk3 and Mk4) both respond to the same remap process.

Skoda Octavia EGR delete is one of our single most requested jobs across all brands.

Skoda Superb (2.0 TDI)

The Superb is a larger car, often purchased as an executive alternative and used extensively on motorways. Despite that profile, EGR faults appear across the Superb range, the engine platform is the same regardless of vehicle positioning. Mk2 and Mk3 Superb 2.0 TDI variants are both within our coverage, and the remap process is straightforward on both ECU types.

What the remap does

We connect to the vehicle's OBD port and read the existing ECU calibration. The delete is applied to the map: the ECU is instructed to disregard the EGR circuit entirely. No signals are sent to open or close the valve, no fault codes are generated by the EGR, and limp mode triggers associated with the EGR are removed.

This is a clean, software-based solution. Nothing is physically removed from the engine. The job takes around 45 minutes to an hour in most cases.

We do not carry out this service on road-registered vehicles in active road use. For off-road and track vehicles only.

Why mobile

Most customers who contact us are dealing with a car that is running in limp mode or has reduced performance. Driving it to a workshop is either inconvenient or not practical. We come to the vehicle, at home, at a unit, or at a storage site, and carry out the remap on location.

Frequently asked questions

Is EGR delete legal on road cars?
No. EGR delete is not legal for vehicles used on UK public roads. It will cause a failure on MOT emissions testing. This service is for off-road and track use only.
Do you remove the EGR valve?
No. This is a software procedure only. We remap the ECU to disable the EGR system. No physical parts are removed or modified.
My Octavia has already had the EGR cleaned. Will a delete still work?
Yes. Cleaning the valve extends its life temporarily but does not prevent recurrence. The remap disables the EGR function at ECU level, which means the valve is no longer commanded to operate and cannot clog again.
What Seat and Skoda models do you cover?
We cover Seat Leon (Mk2, Mk3), Seat Alhambra, Skoda Octavia (Mk2, Mk3, Mk4), and Skoda Superb (Mk2, Mk3), all 2.0 TDI variants. If your model isn't listed, call us to confirm.
How long does the remap take?
Typically 45 minutes to an hour on site. We'll confirm a timeframe when you book based on the specific model and ECU.
Can you carry out the remap if the car is already in limp mode?
In most cases, yes. If the EGR fault is the root cause of limp mode, the delete will resolve it. If there are additional faults, we will advise on the day.
What's included in the £220?
The ECU remap, the mobile callout, and an on-site diagnostic check. No additional charges.
How do I book?
Call 0161 694 7331. We'll take your vehicle details, confirm availability, and arrange a time to suit you.
