The fault that brought you here

The EGR warning tends not to announce itself cleanly. It starts with a rough idle, a hesitation when the engine's cold, a slight judder when you pull away from the lights on Lord Street or queue through the town centre. Then comes the loss of pull under load. Then, at some point on the way towards Formby or on the way out through Ainsdale, the engine management light solidifies and the vehicle drops into limp mode.

When limp mode activates, the ECU has decided the EGR fault is serious enough to restrict performance to protect the engine. RPM caps out early, acceleration flatlines, and a van that needed to be somewhere is now doing thirty on a sixty road.

What is happening inside is straightforward: the EGR valve routes exhaust gas back into the intake to lower combustion temperature. Diesel engines doing short, stop-start runs, servicing streets in Birkdale, running circuits between Crossens and Churchtown, navigating the town centre one-ways, rarely reach the sustained temperature needed to burn off the carbon that builds up in the valve and surrounding passages. The valve fouls, sticks, or loses regulation. Cleaning removes deposits temporarily. Replacing the valve resets the clock. The driving conditions that caused the build-up do not change.

The fix: software removal, not part replacement

EGR removal is a software-based ECU remap. We connect to your vehicle's OBD port, load a modified map that removes the EGR system from the ECU's operating instructions, and the engine stops commanding the valve entirely. The valve stays physically in place, nothing is unbolted, nothing is removed from the engine bay.

“EGR removal” and “EGR delete” are the same modification. Same process, same outcome, same price, whichever term you searched for, you are in the right place.

Once the remap is written and verified, fault codes are cleared from the system. Limp mode caused by the EGR fault resolves. The modification is permanent, there is no scheduled repeat, no six-month return visit, no second cleaning cycle.

The full job takes around an hour at your location.

Southport coverage

We operate from Eccles, covering Southport and the surrounding area including Birkdale, Ainsdale, Formby Road corridor, Crossens, and the town centre. Southport sits roughly 30 miles from our base, and we regularly cover this stretch. Same-day and next-day availability are common depending on schedule.

The mobile visit

We arrive at wherever the vehicle is, your drive, your yard, a car park off Scarisbrick New Road, or a business unit on the Commerce Way industrial strip. You do not need to arrange recovery, book a garage slot, or move the vehicle to us.

We read codes before starting, write the remap, verify the result, and clear stored fault codes before we leave. Around 60 to 90 minutes from arriving to done.

FAQs

Is “EGR removal” the same as “EGR delete”?
Yes. The terms describe the same service: a software remap of the ECU that disables the EGR system in software. The valve is not physically removed. Same modification, same outcome, same £220 price.
Do you physically remove the EGR valve?
No. The modification is software-only. We connect to the OBD port and rewrite the ECU map. The valve stays in place, undisturbed. No dismantling, no engine bay work.
Will the EGR warning light go off after the modification?
Yes. Part of the process is clearing stored fault codes, including EGR-related codes. Once cleared and with the remap in place, the ECU no longer generates EGR fault codes. The warning light does not return from the EGR system.
Is EGR removal legal for road use?
EGR removal is for off-road and track use only. All vehicles modified by EGR Specialist must be used in accordance with this restriction.
