Which engine is in your Movano

Three generations of Movano and three different parents. The A and B are Renault Masters with a Vauxhall badge; the C is a Peugeot Boxer. Which one is on your plate decides which engine you have and what its EGR does wrong.

| Engine | Movano | Years | EGR weak point | |---|---|---|---| | 2.2 DTi G9T and 2.5 DTi and CDTi G9U, Renault | A | 1998 to 2010 | Valve sticks with carbon | | 2.3 CDTi M9T, Renault, single and twin turbo | B | 2010 to 2021 | Valve sticking first; cooler fouling and weeping with age | | 2.2 Turbo D, Stellantis | C | 2021 onward | Newer unit; twin-circuit EGR, record thin |

The M9T in the Movano B is the engine we see most. It is the same unit as the Renault Master Mk3 and the Nissan NV400, and it goes the same way in all three: carbon on the valve until it stops seating, P0401 or P0404 stored, and the van held to a crawl with a full load on. On high-mileage vans the cooler clogs with the same soot and can start weeping coolant into the intake. The Movano A's G9T and G9U are older and simpler, with a single valve that sticks. The Movano C's 2.2 is the engine in the current Boxer and Relay, a newer design with a shorter record, so we confirm coverage from your reg.

How the delete is done on the Movano

You call 0161 694 7331 with the reg and the engine.

We confirm the ECU type before we set off.

We come to the van, at your yard, depot, home or workplace, anywhere within a 40-mile radius of Eccles.

Before anything is written we read every stored code and note the live EGR readings, so we know what we are dealing with.

We read the ECU file at the OBD port, write the EGR delete into it and load it back.

The engine is restarted and the live data checked: no EGR command, no flow check, no fault flagged.

Codes cleared, done.

Typically 60 to 90 minutes, and the van does not leave your premises.

Delete versus replacement on the Movano

An EGR clean on the M9T is £80 to £200 and buys a few months before the carbon is back. A new valve is £300 to £700 fitted at an independent garage, and if the cooler has started weeping and needs doing at the same time the bill climbs further, at £60 to £100 an hour independent or £100 to £140 at a dealer. Then the new valve goes back into the same tail-lift idling and multi-drop work that fouled the old one.

The software delete is £220, once. If the DPF is blocking as well, the DPF and EGR delete in the same visit is £445; the DPF and EGR delete page explains what that covers.

Off-road and track use

The delete is for off-road and track use only. A van with the EGR removed from its software does not meet the emissions requirements for use on a public road, and the owner is responsible for how the vehicle is used after the work. Plenty of Movanos spend their working lives as site tippers, quarry dropsides and compound-yard Lutons, and that is the use the service exists for.

Movano engine questions

Which engine is in my Movano, and how do I check?
Three ways. The engine code field on the V5C, the badge on the engine cover, or the year: a van up to 2010 is the 2.2 or 2.5 in the Movano A, 2010 to 2021 is the 2.3 CDTi in the Movano B, and 2021 onward is the 2.2 Turbo D in the Movano C. Easiest of all, send us the reg and we will tell you.
Does the delete cover both the high-pressure and low-pressure EGR on the newer Movano engines?
The Movano C's 2.2 is a Euro 6d unit. Whether it runs a low-pressure circuit alongside the high-pressure valve, and how the delete handles it, is something we confirm from the ECU file rather than assume.
Is the Movano done through the OBD port, or does the ECU have to come out?
Through the OBD port in most cases. The Movano A and B use ECUs we can read and write in place, so there is no strip-down and nothing leaves the van. We confirm the ECU type from your reg before we set off, so if yours is an exception you will know before we arrive, not on the day.
Does the delete change the power or fuelling on the Movano?
No. The delete targets the EGR maps only. Fuelling, boost and torque limits are left exactly as the factory set them, so the van pulls as it did when it was new, with the EGR fault gone. It is not a performance remap and we do not sell it as one.

Other Vauxhall models we cover

Book your Movano EGR delete: call 0161 694 7331 with the reg and we will confirm the engine and a time.

It is £220, we come to you, and the job takes 60 to 90 minutes on site with nothing removed from the van. See Vauxhall EGR delete for the rest of the range.
