Jaguar XE EGR delete

Company miles in the week, short hops at the weekend. The mix that fouls an XE's twin-circuit EGR is the mix we come out to.

How the XE gets used

Most diesel XEs in the North West are, or were, company cars. Leased on a three-year cycle and driven by a regional manager or a rep, they spend the week on the motorway network and cover high annual mileages. Then they come off lease and start a second life on a driveway in Sale or Bolton doing the school run and the supermarket, and that is when the EGR starts to complain.

The Ingenium diesel has two EGR circuits. The high-pressure loop takes exhaust gas straight from the manifold; the low-pressure loop takes it from after the particulate filter and feeds it back in ahead of the turbo. Both depend on the intake running hot enough to stop soot settling. Motorway miles manage that. Twenty-minute trips across town do not, so carbon builds on both valves and in both coolers, the flow readings drift away from what the ECU expects, and the car drops into limp mode on a slip road. Private-hire and executive-hire XEs, which spend hours idling at ranks and terminals, get there faster still.

What changes after the delete

The ECU stops commanding both EGR valves, so a valve stuck with carbon can no longer produce the flow error that puts the XE into limp mode. The EGR circuits are closed in software, so exhaust gas no longer passes through either cooler and the fouling stops. No EGR fault codes, no repeat valve bill, no second cooler at dealer labour rates. The valves, coolers and pipework stay on the engine; nothing is removed and nothing is ordered. The car stays on the driveway or in the car park for the visit and is back in use the same hour. Fuelling, boost and power stay as Jaguar set them. It is not a performance remap.

XE engines we cover

XE 20d, 163 and 180 PS: 2.0 Ingenium D, 2015 onward

The X760 XE launched in 2015 with the 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder in 163 and 180 PS forms, badged 20d and later D165 and D180. It is the AJ200D unit shared with the XF, the F-Pace and the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Evoque, and it fouls the same way in all of them: carbon on the high-pressure and low-pressure valves, in both coolers and across the intake. The delete covers both circuits.

XE 25d, 240 PS: 2.0 Ingenium D twin turbo

The 240 PS twin-turbo version of the same engine joined the range in 2017. Same block, same two EGR loops, same fault, same remap.

The Ingenium's timing chain and oil dilution problems are separate faults and the delete does nothing for them. Other Jaguar diesels are on the Jaguar EGR delete hub. If your XE is a variant not listed here, call 0161 694 7331 and we will confirm before anyone sets off.

More than one XE

Leasing firms, private-hire operators and companies running a pool of XEs can have them done in a single visit at the yard, the office car park or the depot. We work around shift patterns and bookings so each car is off the job for about an hour and no longer. It is £220 per vehicle. Send the reg of each car before the visit and we will confirm the engine and ECU type for every one in advance.

Questions from XE operators

Can you come to a site, depot or farm to do an XE?
Yes. We are mobile only and cover a 40-mile radius of Eccles, which takes in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside. Home address, office car park, taxi rank or hire depot: all we need is the car, access to the OBD port under the dash and room to park alongside it for about an hour.
I run more than one XE. Can you do them in a single visit?
Yes. Give us the reg of each car when you call and we will confirm the engine and ECU type before we set off, then work through them one after another at your premises. Each takes around an hour. The price is £220 per vehicle, whichever engine, with no call-out charge added for the extra cars.
How long is the XE off the road for?
About an hour, and it does not go anywhere. We connect at the OBD port, read the stored codes, write the delete, restart the engine and check the live data, then clear the codes. No strip-down, no parts on order, no trip to a workshop. You can carry on working around us while it is done.
Can you do the DPF and the EGR on the XE in the same visit?
Yes. If the particulate filter is blocking as well as the EGR fouling, we handle both in the same visit for £445. The DPF and EGR delete page sets out what that covers. Tell us when you call so we allow the time.
