How the A6 gets used

The A6 diesel is the North West's company car. Sales reps, contract managers, consultants, directors of firms with three sites: an A6 Avant or saloon at 30,000 to 40,000 miles a year, most of it on the motorway network. Long runs suit the engine. The EGR sees the rest of the week: hotel car parks, cold starts at six in the morning, twenty minutes of crawling through Salford, and the days between trips when the car does a two-mile nursery run and nothing else.

Older A6s go on to a second and third life as private cars, taxi work and airport runs, where the mileage stays high but the trip length drops. Every short, cool run leaves soot in the intake and on the valve. On the V6 cars the cooler takes the same abuse and, with age, starts to leak coolant into the intake. High mileage does not foul an EGR. Short mileage does, and every A6 gets its share.

What changes after the delete

No more limp mode from the EGR on the way to a meeting. No EGR codes, no engine management light from that system. The ECU stops commanding the valve, so a sticking valve is no longer a fault the car can see, and the circuit is closed in software, so exhaust gas stops passing through the cooler and the coolant-loss route on the V6 cars closes with it. The valve, cooler and bypass flap stay on the engine and stop being used. No repeat valve bill, no second cooler. The car stays where it is parked and is back in use inside the hour.

A6 engines we cover

A6 C6 2.0 TDI, 2.7 TDI and 3.0 TDI, 2004 to 2011

The 2.0 TDI was pump-düse until 2008, then the common-rail EA189. The 2.7 and 3.0 TDI V6s carry the cooler-led fault: coolant loss with no leak, then valve and throttle fouling.

A6 C7 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI, 2011 to 2018

EA189 2.0 TDI to around 2014, then the EA288 with high-pressure and low-pressure EGR circuits. The 3.0 TDI EA897 V6 has the buried cooler; reaching it is most of any replacement bill.

A6 C8 40 TDI, 45 TDI and 50 TDI, 2018 onward

The 40 TDI is the EA288 evo, the 45 and 50 TDI the EA897 evo V6, all with twin-circuit EGR. Newer cars, shorter record, same remap.

All three generations are covered. See the Audi EGR delete hub for the rest of the range, or call 0161 694 7331 to confirm an engine not listed.

More than one A6

Company fleets with a handful of A6s, a taxi firm with two on airport work, a family with an A6 and a Q5. We do several cars in one visit at an office car park, depot or yard, and work around who needs their car back first. £220 per car, about an hour each. Send us each reg beforehand and we confirm engine and ECU type for every one before we set off, so nothing waits on the day.

Questions from A6 operators

Can you come to a site, depot or farm to do an A6?
Yes. The A6 is done at the OBD port, parked wherever it is: an office car park, a depot, a home address or a farmyard. We do not need a ramp, a workshop or power, only the car and the keys. Anywhere within a 40-mile radius of Eccles is normal for us.
I run more than one A6. Can you do them in a single visit?
Yes. Two, three or six A6s can be done back to back in the same visit, each taking about an hour. We confirm every reg in advance so the ECU type on each car is known before we arrive. £220 per vehicle, and the call-out is free whether it is one car or the whole car park.
How long is the A6 off the road for?
About an hour, and it does not go anywhere. We read the codes, read the ECU, write the delete, restart the engine, check the live data and clear the codes. There are no parts to wait for and no return visit. If the car is needed at nine, we can usually have it done before then.
Can you do the DPF and the EGR on the A6 in the same visit?
Yes. Where the A6 has a DPF fault as well as an EGR fault, both are handled in the same visit for £445. One appointment, one ECU read and write, one set of codes cleared. See the DPF and EGR delete page for how the combination works, or call and we will confirm it for your engine.

Other Audi models we cover

Arrange a visit for your A6: call 0161 694 7331, tell us where the car is and when it is off the job, and we will confirm the engine and a time.
