The replacement bill on a Jaguar
Jaguar's diesel saloons and SUVs cover three very different engines, and the bill depends on which one is under the bonnet. The 2.0 Ingenium D in the XE, XF and F-Pace runs high-pressure and low-pressure EGR circuits, so there are two valves and two coolers that can foul, and dealer labour to reach them runs £100 to £140 an hour against £60 to £100 at an independent. A valve alone is £300 to £700 fitted; where a cooler on the V6 has failed as well, buried deeper in the vee, parts and labour together push into four figures at a dealer. The older 2.2 DW12 in the pre-2015 XF and the 2.7 and 3.0 V6 D fitted across the range use a single circuit and a more straightforward valve and cooler.
Then the new part goes back into the same short, cold-start commute that fouled the first one. It fails the same way, and the second bill sits with the owner.
Clean, replace or delete
| Option | Typical cost | How long it lasts | Road-legal? | |---|---|---|---| | Clean | £80 to £200 | Months to a year or two, depending on use | Yes | | Replace | £300 to £700+ fitted; cooler jobs above that | Until the new part fouls | Yes | | Software delete | £220 once | Permanent | No, off-road and track use only |
Read the table honestly. An XE or XF used on the road should be cleaned, because cleaning is legal and works on a valve that is fouled rather than broken. Replacement is the right call when a valve or cooler has physically failed on a road car. The delete is for the off-road-registered F-Pace or the track-day saloon whose owner is on the second or third EGR bill and wants it to be the last.
Jaguar models and engines
The Ingenium and V6 diesels are shared with Land Rover, fitted across the Discovery, Range Rover Sport and Defender ranges, so the fault record for one badge is the fault record for the other. The Land Rover EGR delete hub covers those models.
F-Pace (2016 onward), 2.0 Ingenium D 163, 180 and 240 PS, 3.0 V6 D 300 PS 2016 to 2020, 3.0 Ingenium D300 mild hybrid from 2020. The 2.0's twin EGR circuits foul with intake carbon on both the valve and cooler; the V6's cooler sits deeper in the vee and costs more to reach. See Jaguar F-Pace EGR delete.
XE (2015 onward), 2.0 Ingenium D 163, 180 and 240 PS. The same twin-circuit Ingenium as the F-Pace, in the lightest car in the range. See Jaguar XE EGR delete.
XF (X250 2008 to 2015, X260 2015 onward), 2.7 V6 D to 2009, 3.0 V6 D, 2.2 D DW12 2011 to 2015 on the X250; 2.0 Ingenium D and 3.0 V6 D to 2020 on the X260. Three different EGR layouts under one model name, so the year and badge matter here more than on any other Jaguar. See Jaguar XF EGR delete.
XJ and S-Type, 2.7 and 3.0 V6 D. The same six-cylinder cooler failure as the early XF, on the flagship saloon. No model page yet; we confirm from the reg.
Every engine above is £220. If yours is not listed, call 0161 694 7331 with the reg and we will check it.
What happens on the day
We come to the vehicle, at home, at work or at the track paddock. We connect at the OBD port, read every stored code, read the ECU file and write the EGR delete into it. Engine restarted, live data checked, codes cleared. Roughly an hour, and nothing comes off the engine. On the twin-circuit Ingenium we confirm both high-pressure and low-pressure maps are covered before we set off. If the DPF is blocked as well, both are done in the same visit for £445: see DPF and EGR delete.
