How EGR valves fail and why a software delete is the solution
The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve routes a controlled portion of exhaust gas back into the intake manifold. The purpose is to reduce combustion temperature and cut NOx output. On a diesel engine doing mixed driving with adequate heat cycles, the system can function tolerably. On a diesel doing stop-start work, short runs between Prescot, Huyton, and the Knowsley Industrial Park, deliveries on St Helens Road, repeated cold starts, the carbon load in the recirculated exhaust gas builds faster than normal operating temperatures can clear it. The valve fouls. Surrounding intake passages accumulate deposits. The ECU detects that the EGR circuit is not performing within parameters, logs a fault code, and limits engine output to protect the drivetrain.
A software delete addresses this by removing the EGR system from the ECU's operating map entirely. The valve remains physically in place, nothing is unbolted, no blanking plate is fitted, no surrounding components are disturbed. The engine management system simply runs without the EGR cycle. Fault codes associated with the EGR system are suppressed and cleared. Limp mode caused by EGR faults does not return.
The key distinction from physical removal is that the engine bay is not opened and no mechanical work is done. There is no risk from corroded fixings, no gaskets to replace, and no possibility of disturbing adjacent components.
Vehicles covered
We carry out EGR deletes on a wide range of diesel commercial vehicles and cars. On the van side: Ford Transit (TDCi, EcoBlue), Mercedes Sprinter (CDI), Vauxhall Movano and Vivaro, Volkswagen Transporter T5 and T6 (TDI), Volkswagen Crafter, Renault Trafic and Master, and Fiat Ducato. Diesel cars are covered across most common makes and engine families where a tuning file is available.
Compatibility is subject to available tuning files for your specific make, model, engine variant, and model year. If you operate a vehicle not listed here, call 0161 694 7331 with the details, we will check file availability before you travel anywhere.
How the job runs, step by step
We arrive at your location in Prescot, home, workplace, yard, or car park.
Pre-remap diagnostic
all current fault codes read and logged before the map is touched.
ECU remap written via OBD port
EGR disabled in software, valve removed from the engine's operating parameters.
Verification
modified map confirmed written correctly, engine restarted, system checked.
Fault codes cleared
all EGR-related codes removed.
Done, typically 60 to 90 minutes from arrival.
No engine bay access required. The entire modification is done through the OBD port inside the vehicle cabin. No recovery truck, no garage booking, no parts order.
What the price includes
The £220 covers the visit, the remap, and the verification. There is no diagnostic fee on top, no call-out charge, and no per-hour rate. Compare that against a physical EGR valve replacement, typically £300–£600 fitted, depending on the vehicle and whether corroded fixings or surrounding components add to the labour time. For vans that have already been through one replacement, or two, that comparison becomes sharper. A software delete at £220 is a single fixed cost. There is no repeat visit, no parts schedule, and no second replacement to budget for.
If you also need a DPF delete, both modifications can be carried out in the same visit for £445 combined.
Legal disclaimer
EGR delete is for off-road and track use only. A vehicle with the EGR system disabled in software does not comply with current UK road emissions legislation. It cannot legally be used on a public road. The modification is the responsibility of the vehicle owner. We carry out the work on that basis, we do not make representations about road legality, and this page does not constitute advice that the modification is suitable for road use.
