Why EGR valves fail, and what a software delete does
The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve routes a portion of exhaust gas back into the intake manifold. The engineering rationale is sound, recirculated exhaust displaces oxygen in the combustion chamber, reducing peak temperature and cutting NOx output. For a petrol engine doing mixed-speed driving, the system can function tolerably over time. For a diesel running stop-start routes, hill climbs, and rural service work, the kind of driving common around New Mills and the High Peak, it does not.
The carbon content of diesel exhaust gas is substantial. On an engine that rarely reaches the sustained temperatures needed to burn deposits off the valve surfaces, the build-up accumulates incrementally. The valve starts to stick or operate outside its calibrated range. The ECU detects that the EGR circuit is not performing within parameters, logs a fault code, and reduces engine output, limp mode, as a protective measure. The fault does not resolve itself. Cleaning buys time. Replacement resets the counter. Neither removes the EGR system from the ECU's awareness.
A software delete does. We remap the ECU via the OBD port to remove the EGR cycle from the engine's operating map. The valve remains physically in place, no dismantling, no blanking plates, no gaskets. The ECU stops commanding the valve and stops monitoring the circuit. Fault codes related to the EGR system are cleared and do not return.
Vehicles covered
Software EGR deletes are available for a wide range of diesel vans and cars. Common vehicles include the Ford Transit (TDCi and EcoBlue), Mercedes Sprinter (CDI), Vauxhall Movano and Vivaro, Volkswagen Transporter T5 and T6 (TDI), Volkswagen Crafter, Renault Trafic and Master, and Fiat Ducato. Diesel cars, including BMW 3 and 5 Series, Audi A4, A6, and Q5, Land Rover Freelander and Discovery, and Vauxhall Insignia, are also covered, along with other makes.
Compatibility depends on available tuning data for your specific ECU variant, model year, and engine. If you are not certain your vehicle is covered, call with the registration before booking. We will confirm before you commit.

all EGR-related codes removed from the ECU's stored history.
Done. The job typically takes 60 to 90 minutes from arrival to completion.
No garage. No recovery needed. The vehicle is driveable immediately when we leave.
What £220 covers
The £220 price is all-in: the visit, the remap, and the post-remap verification. There is no call-out charge, no separate diagnostic fee, and no per-hour billing. One fixed price.
A physical EGR valve replacement typically costs £300–£600 fitted, and that is before accounting for complications from corroded fixings or associated components. Vehicles that have already had one replacement are often on a fault cycle that repeats, the same conditions that fouled the original valve will foul the replacement on the same timeline. A software delete at £220 is a single cost with no repeat. If a DPF delete is also required, both can be carried out in one visit for £445.
Legal disclaimer
EGR delete is for off-road and track use only. A vehicle with the EGR system disabled in software does not meet current UK road emissions requirements and cannot legally be used on a public road after the modification is carried out. The responsibility for how the vehicle is used rests entirely with the owner. We set this out clearly, not to discourage the service, but because it is the legal position and every customer needs to understand it before proceeding.
