PROBLEM

The EGR fault usually announces itself before the warning light comes on. Rough idle, a slight hesitation on acceleration, black smoke on harder pulls. By the time limp mode kicks in, the engine management system has already determined the fault is serious enough to dial back performance and protect the drivetrain. For a van that has a job to get to in Chester, that is not a theoretical inconvenience.

The EGR valve routes exhaust gas back into the intake to lower combustion temperature. On a diesel doing short urban runs, deliveries around Chester city centre, stops in Hoole, Boughton, or Chester Business Park, the valve and the surrounding passages accumulate carbon deposits faster than many owners expect. The engine does not get hot enough for long enough to self-clean.

Cleaning the valve clears the deposits for a time. A new valve resets the clock. But neither changes the operating conditions that cause the build-up in the first place. The same diesel, doing the same short runs, will foul the same system again.

SERVICE EXPLAINER

A software EGR delete removes the EGR valve from the engine's operating parameters entirely. We connect to the vehicle's OBD port and write a modified ECU map that stops the engine management system from commanding the EGR valve. The valve itself stays physically in place, nothing is dismantled, no gaskets are disturbed, no corroded fixings are touched.

Once the map is written, the ECU no longer runs the exhaust gas recirculation cycle. The fault codes that triggered the warning light and limp mode are cleared at the end of the visit. Because the EGR system is no longer in the ECU's operating parameters, those codes do not return.

This is a permanent software modification. It does not degrade over time, does not need periodic renewal, and does not require any follow-up work.

MOBILE PROCESS

We come to your location in Chester, home, workplace, yard, or any car park. When we arrive, we carry out a full code read to log all current fault codes before we start. The modified ECU map is then written via the OBD port. Once the map is confirmed written correctly, we restart and verify the result, then clear all stored codes. The visit takes 60–90 minutes from arrival to completion. No recovery required, no garage appointment, no day lost waiting for a slot.

FAQs

Will this fix my limp mode?
If the limp mode is caused by the EGR system, yes, removing the EGR from the ECU map means the fault that triggered limp mode can no longer be detected. If there is uncertainty about the cause, a pre-remap code read will identify what fault codes are present before work begins.
What if I've already replaced the EGR valve and it's failed again?
A software delete is just as effective on a vehicle with a replacement valve as on one with the original. The physical condition of the valve does not affect the software modification. If the replacement valve has already failed, a delete removes the issue from the ECU permanently rather than requiring another part.
What if there are fault codes showing that aren't EGR-related?
We carry out a full code read before starting the remap and log everything we find. If there are non-EGR faults showing, we will flag them to you. The EGR delete addresses the EGR codes; other faults remain until separately diagnosed and resolved.
Do you need to open the engine bay?
No. The entire modification is carried out through the OBD diagnostic port. No tools in the engine bay, no components removed or disturbed.
