EGR fault diagnosis, what's causing your engine warning light?
If your engine management light has come on, your car has dropped into limp mode, or you have noticed a loss of power you cannot explain, there is a good chance your EGR valve is at the root of it. The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve is one of the most common causes of fault codes and engine warning lights on diesel vehicles, and one of the most misdiagnosed.
We diagnose EGR faults across Greater Manchester at no charge. Call us, describe what your car is doing, and we will tell you within minutes whether the symptoms point to an EGR problem. If it does, we come to you and fix it the same day from £220.
Common EGR fault symptoms
Faulty EGR valve symptoms can look like several different problems, which is why so many vehicles end up with part replacements that do not actually solve anything. The most common symptoms of a bad EGR valve include:
If your vehicle is showing one or more of these symptoms, the fault could well be EGR-related. Read more on our faulty EGR valve symptoms page.
Common EGR fault codes
When your ECU detects an EGR problem, it logs a specific fault code. The three you are most likely to see are:
These codes are a useful pointer, but a code alone does not tell you the full picture. A stuck valve, a blocked EGR cooler, or a failed solenoid can all produce the same code. We assess the whole system, not just the code. See our EGR fault codes page for a full breakdown, including less common codes.
No diagnostic fee for EGR faults
We do not charge a diagnostic fee for EGR-related faults. Call us on 0161 694 7331, tell us your symptoms and any codes you have, and we will talk you through what we think is happening. If it points to an EGR fault, we will book a mobile visit and carry out a full assessment on arrival before any work begins.
If the fault is confirmed as EGR-related, the fix is a permanent ECU remap that removes the EGR from the engine management system entirely. No more valve to block, stick, or fail. The ECU delete starts from £220, comes with no call-out charge, and we cover the whole of Greater Manchester within a 40-mile radius of Eccles.
Please note: EGR delete is carried out for off-road and track use only.
Not sure if your valve is stuck open or closed? See our EGR valve stuck open or closed page.
