Volvo V90 EGR delete
Motorway commutes on Monday, school run and supermarket the rest of the week, a caravan on the back in August. The mix that fouls a V90's EGR is the mix we come out to. Mobile software delete at your home or workplace, £220.
Call 0161 694 7331 with the reg and we will confirm the engine and a time.
For off-road and track use only.
How the V90 gets used
Most diesel V90s in the North West were bought as company cars or family estates and do a bit of everything. A long run down the motorway once or twice a week, then five days of short trips: school, station, supermarket, the dog on the moors. Cross Country versions add a lane to a farmhouse, a horsebox or a caravan, and a field at the end of it. The engine is properly hot for the motorway stint and lukewarm for the rest, and the rest is where the damage happens.
Recirculated exhaust gas carries soot, and soot only burns off when the intake stays hot for a sustained stretch. On short runs it never does, so carbon builds on the VEA's EGR valve until it stops seating and packs the cooler behind it until the flow drops. The engine management light comes on, the car goes flat above 2,000 rpm, and it goes into limp mode on the way to a meeting.
A fair share of V90s, the Cross Country especially, spend part of the year on ground that is not a road: farm tracks, showground fields, private estates. That is the use this service is sold for.
What changes after the delete
The ECU stops commanding the EGR valve, so a valve stuck with carbon can no longer trip limp mode or store a P0400-series code. The EGR circuit is closed in software, so exhaust gas stops passing through the cooler, and the route by which a leaking cooler pushes coolant into the intake is shut. There is no repeat valve bill, because the valve is no longer in use. The car stays where it is parked, the remap takes about an hour, and it is back in use the same afternoon with the fuelling, boost and torque exactly as Volvo set them.
V90 engines we cover
V90 D3, D4 and D5, 2016 to 2022
Every diesel V90 carries the 2.0 VEA four-cylinder in D3, D4 or D5 form; the D5 is the twin-turbo PowerPulse version and the D4 is the one most UK cars have. All three share the same EGR layout, valve and cooler, and the same fouling pattern. The D5 works the EGR hardest and is the version we hear about most, but the D4 is close behind on a car that does short runs. The engine is shared with the S90, the XC60 and the XC90 Mk2 of the same years. Volvo's 2019 recall on these engines concerned the intake manifold and is a separate matter from the EGR.
The whole range is covered. Other Volvos are on the Volvo EGR delete hub. If your V90 is a variant not listed, call 0161 694 7331 and we will confirm from the reg.
More than one V90
If you run a small fleet of V90s, company cars or estate hire, we do them in one visit, at the office car park or depot, worked around your people's diaries so nobody loses a day. £220 per vehicle, no call-out charge on top. Send us the reg for each car beforehand and we confirm the ECU type on every one before we set off, so nothing is held up on the day.
