The replacement bill on a Land Cruiser
On a Land Cruiser the usual EGR job is not one part. The valve fouls with carbon, and by the time it sticks the intake manifold behind it is coated in the same soot, so the bill is a valve plus a manifold strip and clean, and on a high-mileage 3.0 D-4D the cooler is often condemned at the same time. A valve alone is £300 to £700 fitted at an independent. Add the manifold work and the cooler and the labour hours climb, at £60 to £100 an hour independent or £100 to £140 at a Toyota dealer, and the total sits well above the valve figure. A clean on its own is £80 to £200 and buys a few months on a vehicle that does low-speed work.
Then the new valve goes back into the same use: farm tracks, towing, idling at gates. It fouls the same way, on the same timescale, and the second bill is yours.

The honest reading: a Land Cruiser used on the road should be cleaned, not deleted. Cleaning is legal, it is the cheapest line on the table, and on a valve that is fouled rather than failed it works. Replacement is right when a valve has physically failed on a road vehicle. The delete is for the off-road Land Cruiser, on the farm or the estate, whose owner is on the second or third EGR bill and wants it to be the last.

The 1GD. EGR and intake carbon fouling is widely reported, usually alongside DPF trouble on the same low-speed use. The valve is the repeat failure here rather than the cooler.

The 1VD V8, sold in the UK from 2008 to 2015. A larger engine bay and a thinner record; covered by the same remap, confirmed from the reg.

What happens on the day
We come to the vehicle: your farm, a yard, an estate, your home. We connect at the OBD port, read every stored code, read the ECU file and write the EGR delete into it.
