Toyota Hilux EGR delete

Farm tracks, site compounds, a trailer of fencing on the back. The use that fouls a Hilux's EGR is the use we come out to. Mobile software delete at your farm, yard or site, £220.

Call 0161 694 7331 with the reg and we will confirm the engine and a time.

For off-road and track use only.

How the Hilux gets used

A Hilux around the edge of Greater Manchester does not do many motorway miles. Farmers run it between fields and the yard, a mile at a time, engine idling while the gate is opened and the trailer hitched. Groundworkers and fencing contractors take it onto sites where the roads are not made up yet, a few hundred yards at walking pace, then park it with the engine running for the heater. Between them, a typical week is cold starts, low speed, low load and a lot of idling.

That pattern is what fills the EGR with carbon. Recirculated exhaust gas carries soot, and soot only burns off when the intake stays hot for a proper stretch of the day. Low-speed off-road work never gets it there, so the deposits build in the valve and the intake until the valve sticks and the manifold chokes. On the 2.4 and 2.8 the DPF suffers in the same way for the same reason, and that is a separate fault with its own fix.

Most of a working Hilux's week is spent on ground that is not a road at all. That is the use this service exists for.

What changes after the delete

The ECU stops commanding the EGR valve, so a valve stuck with carbon can no longer trip limp mode or store a P0400-series code. The EGR circuit is closed in software, so exhaust gas stops passing through the cooler and stops carrying soot into the intake manifold, and the route by which a leaking cooler pushes coolant into the engine is shut. There is no repeat valve bill, because the valve is no longer in use. The truck stays where it is parked, the remap takes about an hour, and it is back on the job the same afternoon with the fuelling, boost and torque exactly as Toyota set them.

Hilux engines we cover

Hilux Mk7 2.5 D-4D and 3.0 D-4D, 2005 to 2015

The 2KD 2.5 and the 1KD 3.0. Both foul the valve and cooler with carbon on low-speed work, and the 3.0's intake can choke badly enough to cost power before a code is stored. The 1KD's injector seal problem is a separate fault and the delete does nothing for it. Both engines are shared with the Land Cruiser of the period.

Hilux Mk8 2.4 D-4D, 2016 to 2020

The 2GD. EGR and intake carbon fouling is widely reported on this engine, and it usually arrives alongside DPF trouble on the same short, cold runs. Two faults, two fixes; we keep them separate.

Hilux Mk8 2.8 D-4D, 2020 onward

The 1GD that replaced the 2.4 in the UK. Same layout, same fouling pattern, more torque to work the EGR harder.

All four engines are covered. Other Toyota 4x4s and vans are on the Toyota EGR delete hub. If your Hilux is a variant not listed, call 0161 694 7331 and we will confirm from the reg.

More than one Hilux

If you run three Hiluxes, we do three in one visit, at the farm, yard or depot, worked around your shift pattern so the trucks go out as normal. £220 per vehicle, no call-out charge on top. Send us the reg for each one beforehand and we confirm the ECU type on every truck before we set off, so nothing is held up on the day.

Questions from Hilux operators

Can you come to a site, depot or farm to do a Hilux?
Yes. We are mobile only and cover a 40-mile radius of Eccles, which takes in Greater Manchester, most of Lancashire and Cheshire, and Merseyside. A farmyard, a site compound, a hire depot or the road outside your house all work. We need the truck, the keys and somewhere to stand for an hour.
I run more than one Hilux. Can you do them in a single visit?
Yes. Several vehicles at one address in one visit is the normal way we handle small fleets. Each one is £220, and we work through them one after another so the first is back in use while the second is being done. Give us the reg numbers when you book and we prepare each file in advance.
How long is the Hilux off the road for?
About an hour, and it does not go anywhere. We connect at the OBD port where the truck is parked, read the codes, write the delete, restart and check the live data, then clear the codes. No waiting for parts, no dropping it off. If it is in limp mode when we arrive, that does not stop the remap.
Can you do the DPF and the EGR on the Hilux in the same visit?
Yes. Both deletes done in the same visit are £445, and the DPF and EGR delete page explains what that covers. On the 2.4 and 2.8 the two faults usually arrive together. Tell us when you call so we prepare the right file for both.
